Efstathia-Maria D. Sapouni is a senior medical student at the University of Thessaly, Larissa, Greece. Since she was a child, her passion for helping humanity led her to take the decision to enter the medical profession. After graduating top of her class in high school, she entered the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Thessaly. Since her very first year as a medical student, she has been an active member of HelMSIC (Hellenic Medical Students’ International Committee), where she held office as Local Secretary, Public Health Officer, Sexual and Reproductive Health Officer. She is also an active peer education trainer on Human Rights, Sexual and Reproductive Health and also, an IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations) certified soft skills trainer. She has served as OC Chair in organizing the IFMSA TNT (Training New Trainers) Workshop in 2016, Kastoria, Greece. She has also been a member in numerous OCs for both, local and national activities. In 2016, she attended an IFMSA International Meeting (European Regional Meeting), representing Greece as a member of the delegation. She is currently conducting research in the field of Neuroscience, in association with the Neurology Department of University Hospital of Larissa. The focus of their study is investigating the relation between miRNAs and Parkinson’s Disease. She is a fan of international cinema and loves to read, dance and play the piano.
